Internet and Network Firewalls

If your computer or network is connected to the Internet without a firewall it is open to many attacks from other users and programs connected to the Internet.  When companies only had a dial-up connection to the Internet, the Internet was not as much of a threat.  Today most companies have an always on high speed connection with their phone or cable provider.  A correctly configured Firewall can block those intrusion attempts.

The device to share your Internet connection is called a router.  Most Internet routers today have a built in Firewall and some also have wireless capabilities.  By default most of these routers are not properly configured for security and they easily allow computer hackers to connect to your network without physically being attached to it.  When we setup your router you can be confident it is configured to protect you from the outside world.

If you are connected to the Internet without a properly configured router you are open to but not exclusive to, the following:

getting infected with a computer virus, trojan, root kit, etc.
● someone deleting important files
● someone stealing your personal information
● using your computer to send out SPAM emails
● someone can take control of your computer and/or server
Please call us today at (519) 885-8494 to do a free inspection of your existing connection to the Internet.  We can let you know if you are properly protected or if you are in jeopardy of getting attacked .
